Architectural Designer | Teacher

Yara is a Lebanese architect licensed in Beirut, and a lecturer at University of California, Los Angeles Architecture and Urban Design UCLA A.UD teaching design and research studio at the graduate level. Before that, she taught at the Städelchule Architecture Class (SAC) in Germany design studios, visual studies, and seminars at the postgraduate level.

Her research work interrogates the territories of architectural education core curriculum, and speculates on the role of emerging technologies in designing our cities using new media and storytelling techniques. Her current studio Los Angeles Portraits explores Los Angeles’ lush diversity by uncovering its multiple layers of resolution. The studio speculates – through interactive storytelling – on the near future of cultural space in diverse neighborhoods in Los Angeles.

She graduated with distinction from the Southern California Institute of Architecture (SCI-Arc) with an M.Sc. in Design Theory and Pedagogy. She holds an M. A in Architecture from SAC, and an M.Sc. in Architecture from the Lebanese Academy of Fine-Arts, where she received the Alexis Boutros Award, and the Bahaa El Dine Bsat Award of Excellence in Architecture from the Lebanese Order of Architects and Engineers. Her research work interrogates the territories of architectural education core curriculum, and she speculates on the role of emerging technologies in designing our cities using new media and storytelling techniques.

Yara continues to work on projects that sit at the intersection of Design, Technology, and Storytelling, to address the contemporary situation of urban and domesticated spaces.
